What are your most important tasks? How MITs can guide you down the path to success

Step one: jot down your three most important tasks

Your most important tasks, otherwise known as MITs, may differ from those of others.  One thing, however, remains constant: Your MITs will guide you on the path to daily success.

The first step in our plan of action is to jot them down.  Whether this be on your phone, a sheet of lined paper, or a sticky note stuck to your desk, make sure you write down three tasks that you feel are the most important to you every single day.

Jot down your tasks

For example, mine are time with God, physical exercise, and daily gratitudes.  These three tasks help me balance physical, mental, and spiritual health and have helped me immensely.  I personally notice that the days I miss one of these tasks are also the days I feel the least productive.  That’s the motive of our MITs, they remind us of how important they are when we don’t do them.  Your MITs should and probably will look completely different than mine.  However, I hope the examples I gave help you determine what your most important tasks are in your lives.

The next step: putting your MITs into action with accountability groups

Now that you’ve determine what your three MITs are, it’s time to act upon them.  Start with a daily checklist.  Did you complete MIT number one today?  If so, place a checkmark next to it.  If not, either mark an ‘X’ next to it or leave the space to the right of it blank.  Over time, you’ll probably see less and less check marks next to each MIT and that’s okay!  Actually, it’s natural to lose motivation over time.  That’s where our accountability partners and/or groups come into play.  In order to stay on top of your tasks, it’s important to have somebody else hold you accountable as well as yourself.

Make sure others are in tune with their tasks

The hardest part may be finding a family member, friend, or peer that buys into the MIT process as much as you do.  However, if you’re lucky enough to find someone as equally motivated as you are, make sure you take advantage of their help and stay on top of your MITs.  I’ve been blessed enough to find an accountability partner that actually introduced me to these most important tasks.  We motivate each other to maintain consistency by completing our MITs to the best of our abilities.  This does not mean that every day of the year all three need to be done.  But, if there’s a noticeable stretch where one, two, or all three tasks aren’t being completed, make sure you and your partner are holding yourselves and each other accountable.
